Know more
In Seville's Sierra Morena, the Huéznar River becomes a torrent that plunges down with great force, carving its way through the landscape and creating a natural spectacle that surprises those who discover it. The Huéznar waterfalls are a hidden corner where the water tirelessly carves the rock, giving life to a lively and beautiful environment.
This river is born in the heights of the mountain range, fed by the springs of San Nicolás del Puerto. As it progresses, it descends in a series of jumps that form impressive waterfalls, where the water falls with great force and, at the same time, flows gently, creating crystal-clear pools that invite you to rest. The freshness of the surroundings and the soothing sound of the water make this place a haven of tranquillity, ideal for those who want to get away from it all.
For centuries, the Huéznar river has shaped this unique landscape, covering the rocks with moss and nourishing the forests of ash and alder trees that hug the banks. This diverse ecosystem is home to a rich biodiversity, where birds such as the dipper and small mammals find shelter among the vegetation. Each season transforms the landscape: in spring, bright greens mix with wild flowers, while in autumn the trees turn gold and offer a spectacular palette of colours.
The Huéznar waterfalls are not only a visual spectacle, they are also a meeting place between nature and the visitor. Hikers, adventurers and travellers come here, attracted by the purity of the environment and the serenity that emanates from every corner. As they walk along the paths that border the river, the water seems to tell an incessant story of renewal and life, inviting everyone to discover its secrets.
This magical place, declared a Natural Monument by the Junta de Andalucía in 2001, covers an area of 16,196 square metres and is located just 2 kilometres from the town of San Nicolás del Puerto. The landscape is dotted with small waterfalls known colloquially as "Las Chorreras". Each of these waterfalls is the result of the deposition of calcium carbonate carried by the waters of the river, forming travertines that cover the walls and create a unique "rock curtain" landscape when the water falls over the slides drawn by the rocks.
Visitors to this area can enjoy activities such as walking and observing the local flora and fauna. The presence of species such as willows, elms, ashes and alders creates an ideal environment for exploration, while the song of birds and the murmur of water provide a natural soundtrack to enhance the experience.
