Within the interesting repertoire of archaeological pieces in the Museum of Valencina de la Concepción we can highlight the following for their great scientific value.

JAVELIN POINT.

This piece, from the Evaristo Ortega Santos Collection and dated to the Chalcolithic period, was found in Cerro Las Coronas. It is made of flint and measures 12 cm long, between 12 and 4.8 cm wide and 1.5 cm thick. It weighs 89.7 grams. It is worked with retouching on the sides and its base is slightly concave. Both sides of the piece are also worked with retouches.

CERAMIC DISH.

This piece, dated to the Chalcolithic period, is a dish with a convex base and an almond-shaped rim. Its interior is decorated with red slip. It has three pairs of perforations that show evidence of a primitive breakage and repair with a kind of suture known as laña. It has an outer diameter of 35.8 cm, an inner diameter of 28.5 cm and an approximate weight of 2.548 kg.

SAW.

This copper saw, dated to the Chalcolithic period, is decorated with vegetal latticework on both sides. Its entire surface is covered with a green patina. The tool appears to be associated with the remains of ivory carving and may have been used for this work. In addition, some ivory fragments show traces of sawing. It is 11 cm long, 2.4 to 1.8 cm wide, and 0.2 cm thick. It weighs approximately 25.1 grams.

IVORY PLAQUE.

During the Chalcolithic period, ivory work was of great importance, being a material of great social and religious significance. An example of such work is this rectangular plaque with a double central perforation made from a piece of ivory from an Asian elephant tusk. It measures 3.5 cm long, 2.9 cm wide and 0.7 cm thick, and weighs approximately 8.8 cm. The piece is currently fragmented into two pieces and a splinter.

CERAMIC POT.

This ceramic pot was found in the area around the dolmen of La Pastora. It is a carinated pottery, i.e. in the shape of a tulip, which was very common in the Chalcolithic period. It is painted with black slip on the upper wall and has an incised decoration filled with limestone paste forming dotted triangles using the stippling technique. Its maximum diameter is 35 cm and its smallest diameter, located in the mouth of the vessel, is 28 cm.
