Roman Route

Throughout its long history, the province of Seville has been a place of settlement for many cultures and civilizations, one of the most influential being the Roman civilization.

Ancient Rome left its mark on this land through gastronomy, language, architecture, theatre, and even place names. From our province, one could access one of the great communication routes of the ancient empire: the Vía de la Plata, which crossed the western part of Hispania from south to north.

The Baetica-Roman Route takes visitors through ancient sites that still preserve traces of this Roman past, such as the former Astigi (today Écija), with its monumental buildings, or Carmo (Carmona), with its Puerta de Sevilla, amphitheatre, and necropolis.
